👑 Shai’s MVP Shine, Knicks’ Meltdown, and the LeBron Legacy War

The Conference Finals opened with the Oklahoma City Thunder blowing the Minnesota Timberwolves out in Game 1. But fans focused on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s foul-baiting and free throws.

The discourse continued well into the following day when the NBA announced him as the 2024-25 regular season MVP. He was reveling in his first major individual accolade and celebrated the moment by spending $10,000 on Rolex watches he gifted to his teammates.

In the Eastern Conference Finals, New York Knicks fans could have splurged on Rolexes had their team held on to the 14-point lead they had with nearly 3 minutes to go. But Tyrese Haliburton poured cold water over any planned celebrations.

He and his Indiana Pacers blitzed the final few minutes, and his choke celebration was the final dagger. It was not the game-winner as he believed, but he made up for it by helping his team win in overtime and seal the most enthralling comeback win in ages.

In Game 2 of the West Finals, everyone wanted Anthony Edwards to come up with a response. He did his part, but his teammates forgot that it is a team sport and lost the game to head home with a 0-2 deficit.

In other news, Michael Jordan's longtime agent, David Falk, started a furore when he claimed that LeBron James was not a top 2 or 3 player in league history simply because he won his titles after forming super teams. Jordan’s longtime supporter and James’ latest enemy No. 1, Stephen A. Smith, slammed Falk’s take, correcting the notion that James is the 2nd best player ever.

🏀 Clark’s Clashes, Reese’s Struggles, and Bueckers’ Growing Pains

The discourse arising from the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese altercation dominated media conversations. Prime among them were former NFL stars Robert Griffin III and Ryan Clark. Their hate and race-based narratives started to seep into their personal lives, forcing them to defend their turf with some hard-hitting social media posts.

Clark entered the WNBA history books in her second game, but that resulted in a loss. Today, when her Indiana Fever met the Atlanta Dream again, they took revenge for that Game 2 loss. But the story that dominated the game was when bumps and words were exchanged between Clark and Rhyne Howard.

In the second game, Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky were expected to bounce back and play better than they did in Game 1. But the sophomore had the worst game of her professional career, scoring zero from eight field goal attempts.

She managed to finish the game with two points from free throws. Now, fans are concerned about her lack of development as a basketball player. Her -45 from two games ranks bottom of the league and is proof that her presence is not helping her team.

Paige Bueckers has also lost the first three games of her rookie WNBA season. But unlike Reese, there was hope when they nearly upset last season’s runner-up Lynx. Fans hope the improvements will soon turn into wins.

🏈 Purdy’s Payday, Hurts Skips Out, and Rodgers Goes Full Rogan

The story that gripped football fans was when the San Francisco 49ers handed starting quarterback Brock Purdy a five-year, $265 million deal. Fans were dumbfounded by the 49ers' decision to hand a mid-tier QB that much money.

But that was the least controversial football story of the weekend after Jalen Hurts gave a diplomatic reason for his absence at the Philadelphia Eagles’ White House visit. He claimed that he was not available and had other things to do at the same time.

Aaron Rodgers joined in to stoke further controversy when he claimed that the transgender woman movement goes against everything women stand for. He believes trans men should be banned from entering events for women.

Rodgers was not done and went on to Joe Rogan’s podcast to publicly take LeBron James’ name when the two were talking about powerful people who attended rapper P Diddy’s parties. Rodgers also wants Diddy’s trial to be made public so that people can see what is happening.

The 41-year-old was not done stoking controversy when he joined Rogan to slam legacy media for attacking Elon Musk at every turn. He believes Musk is helping the country fix a lot of its wrongs and that is why he is being targeted.

🏁 NASCAR Legends Honored, Larson Struggles, and Payday Push

Kurt Busch is officially heading to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The 2004 Cup Series champ will be part of the 2026 class, earning a well-deserved spot after over two decades on the track. His brother Kyle Busch was quick to show love, calling it a proud family moment and a huge win for the Busch name.

While one driver celebrates, another struggles. Kyle Larson’s Indy 500 prep has been a nightmare. He crashed twice during practice and will start way back in P19. NASCAR Hall of Famer Kevin Harvick didn’t hold back either, saying Larson has no chance at an Indy win this year and should just focus on finishing both races to check the Double Duty box.

Over at North Wilkesboro, the All-Star Race has drivers fighting for a $1 million payday — but many think it’s time for a raise. 2023 champ Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace, and Denny Hamlin all spoke up this week, calling for NASCAR to boost the prize to $3 million.

Their argument? NASCAR just signed a $7.7 billion TV deal, and it’s costing teams nearly a million to show up for the All-Star Race. The drivers say it’s only fair the prize matches the effort. Honestly — hard to argue with that
