Hellebuyck’s Heroics, Kash Patel’s Locker Room Party, and 46-Year Anniversary
Forty-six years to the day after the "Miracle on Ice," the United States has once again captured Olympic gold. The U.S. Men’s Hockey team defeated rivals Canada 2-1 in a heart-pounding overtime thriller, marking their first gold medal since 1980.
Jack Hughes delivered the "Golden Goal" just 1:41 into the 3-on-3 extra period, sliding the puck through the legs of Jordan Binnington to cement his place in American sports lore.
The victory was anchored by Connor Hellebuyck, who earned Player of the Game honors after stopping 41 of 42 Canadian shots. Despite a late second-period equalizer from Cale Makar, Hellebuyck’s wall-like presence kept the U.S. alive as Canada pressed hard in the absence of injured captain Sidney Crosby.
The win turned legendary when Hughes, who had his front teeth knocked out by a high stick in the third period, returned to the ice to score the winner with a bloodied, gap-toothed smile.
The celebration moved from the ice to the locker room, where a FaceTime call from President Donald Trump awaited the squad. Facilitated by FBI Director Kash Patel, the President invited the entire team to Tuesday’s State of the Union address, even offering a military plane for transport.
Viral footage showed Patel celebrating with the team, spraying beer while players sang along to "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" in a high-energy scene that has since dominated social media.
Obama’s All-Star Jab, The MJ Daytona Defense, and the NBA’s New War
After fans and fellow athletes rejoiced in Michael Jordan’s 2026 Daytona 500 win, videos circulated of him being inappropriate to his driver’s young son. This led Stephen A. Smith to trash those narratives using facts.
Barack Obama used Jordan’s name to take shots at Hall of Famer Reggie Miller during the All-Star game. The former President and his wife, Michelle Obama, had a great time watching the USA vs. World format that garnered the best ratings in 15 years.
Days after Stephen Curry was flamed for investing in companies owned by former IDF officers, fans demanded Kevin Durant answer for his investment in a drone company that supplied to the Israeli military. His alleged use of a burner account dissing former teammates also grabbed headlines.
LeBron James, on the other hand, angered journalists and fans for his questionable reaction to a question about Israel. He later revealed he gave up his favorite chocolate chip cookies and drinking wine in order to get healthy to play this season.
The league announced it will introduce new anti-tanking rules next season after Suns owner Mat Ishbia ranted about it, labelling it as being similar to illegal betting. Charles Barkley had some ideas involving limiting ticket prices and draft picks to discourage tanking.
The Hall of Famer had two awkward moments, one involving the Lakers and one the Knicks, when Inside the NBA ran for three straight days, while also celebrating USA Hockey’s win at the Winter Olympics.
Hornets star LaMelo Ball crashed into another car head-on in Charlotte, and then stormed out of a press conference when asked about it. At least it was not as threatening as what Russell Westbrook and his wife felt after a disgruntled bettor wished they would die in a car crash.

Hill’s Chiefs Workout, Rice’s $1M Lawsuit, and Micah Parsons’ War with Skip
Tyreek Hill became the most important person in the NFL this week after the Miami Dolphins released him to save $22.8 million. The Miami-Dade officer who faced criticism for arresting the WR celebrated this release, labelling the speedster ‘entitled.’
At the same time, the Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract, releasing $4.5 million in cap space. After Hill revealed he was in Kansas City for a workout, head coach Andy Reid had to step in and denounce all the rumors suggesting a reunion was on the cards.
Reid is hopeful Travis Kelce returns for one more year, as the Chiefs are facing another instance where Rashee Rice could be facing the NFL’s brunt. He is facing a $1 million lawsuit from the mother of his children over allegations of domestic violence.
Reid also confirmed Mahomes was working hard to recover faster than his usual schedule. The QB spent the weekend watching USA Hockey win gold at the Winter Olympics, and then corrected ESPN over a blatant error regarding the late Johnny Gaudreau’s children.
Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons called out Skip Bayless’ criticisms on Funny Marco’s podcast, leaving the analyst to come back with some more criticisms and a challenge to face each other on any platform.
After Vikings star Rondale Moore took his own life, NFL players poured in with reactions of shock and sadness. Many of them have been advocating for mental health awareness after the WR became the second player in the past few months to take his own life.
$200K Point God, Angel’s Homecoming, and Caitlin’s Miami Retreat
After winning the Unrivaled 1v1 tournament and banking $200K in prize money, Chelsea Gray got some more good news when her Rose BC made some trades to offload Azure Stevens. That is because they were making space for Angel Reese’s return.
‘Chi-Barbie’ first teased a possible run with her team as they look to defend their championship. Then, she made her debut in style, racking up points and rebounds, along with her defense, and her team has since gotten back to its winning ways.
The forward’s rival, Caitlin Clark, has also made her way to Miami, Florida. However, unlike the Chicago Sky star, the Fever guard travelled to do two things at once. First off, she spent time with her Fever teammates by chilling on a boat.
Then, they, along with a few Fever coaches, managed to get some work in, even though the WNBA CBA negotiations are still at an impasse. At least ESPN believes giving them prime spots would be a good move.
After losing its MLB media rights deal, the network promptly inserted women’s basketball and the NWSL into its upcoming schedule in the form of Women’s Sports Sundays. This means Clark and the likes of Trinity Rodman will get prime airtime with millions of viewers at home.
Serena Williams’ husband, and Reddit founder, Alex Ohanian, was one of those who praised this move, as this gives women’s sports a great platform. It seems they, too, agree with Nick Wright that Clark should be made the ‘Face of Basketball.’
