🏀 Ja Morant’s Wild Celebrations, Luka’s Emotional Return & Coaching Shake-Ups Rock NBA

$75K is a lot of money for anyone. But Morant had to bring out his creativity to bypass those fines. In came a new grenade celebration, which Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki seemed to like a lot. The Grizzlies star brought the grenade out again today, along with it, an assault rifle celebration too.

Charles Barkley joked that even though the NBA needs to look into it, Morant’s former head coach, Taylor Jenkins, does not have to answer questions about it. He was let go before the superstar decided to bring out finger guns celebration.

It is still a mystery as to why Jenkins was fired. But the Denver Nuggets clarified that they fired Michael Malone because they saw some things happening off the court that concerned them. Malone’s battles with GM Calvin Booth stemmed from differences in how the team should be run.

The role of Russell Westbrook came up as a problem. Allegedly, Malone treated him like a superstar, which seemed to rub some players the wrong way. Another player who has been rubbed the wrong way happens to be Luka Doncic.

The Dallas Mavericks blindsided him by trading him to the Lakers. No wonder he could not stop tears from filling his eyes on his return. The Mavs tribute video reminded him of what he was forced to leave behind.

Anthony Edwards might have joked about Doncic’s trade in the past. But the way the superstar is playing lately has some believing he wants to leave nothing on the table. He even confessed to watching Michael Jordan videos to help motivate him. It worked, and he exploded against the Grizzlies in a major playoff seeding battle.

🏁 Max Wins, Sainz Swears, and a Monaco Moment for Kelly Piquet

Max Verstappen put on a clinical display at the Japanese Grand Prix, capturing his first win of the 2025 season and pushing himself into serious championship contention. Despite the RB21 being slower than the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, Verstappen found an edge on the newly repaved Suzuka circuit, where low tire degradation played into his hands. Heading into Bahrain, however, Verstappen remains cautious, admitting that high tire degradation and overheating remain the Achilles’ heel of Red Bull’s 2025 challenger.

As Verstappen celebrated his Suzuka triumph, another milestone awaited him off the track. His partner, Kelly Piquet, hosted her baby shower on the couple’s new yacht in Monte Carlo. Surrounded by close friends and family, Piquet shared glimpses of a beautifully decorated celebration, complete with a cake-filled center table, pastel-themed décor, and a radiant glow. With the baby expected sometime in April, fans are eagerly speculating whether Verstappen will be able to attend the birth—something he sadly might miss due to back-to-back race commitments.

Meanwhile, the FIA is cracking down hard on driver discipline, and Carlos Sainz is learning that the hard way. After being fined €10,000 for arriving late to the Japanese national anthem, Sainz landed in hot water again—this time for dropping a swear word during the Bahrain press conference. His offhand “s*** happens” comment could cost him further under the FIA’s new code, which penalizes misconduct and language that causes “moral injury.” Sainz cited a stomach issue for his previous tardiness, but the FIA isn’t showing much leniency with their new, stricter fine structure.

🥊 FS QUICK HITS

🏒 K. Subban Stirs the Pot, NHL Remembers Ray Shero

P.K. Subban sparked controversy on ESPN’s First Take when he ranked Alexander Ovechkin’s goal record above LeBron James' all-time NBA points milestone. Subban argued that LeBron never “instilled fear” in opponents like Ovechkin or legends such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. He emphasized the NHL’s heightened physicality, suggesting the two records aren’t comparable. During Thursday’s ESPN+ broadcast of Hurricanes vs. Capitals, Subban doubled down, stating only Jerry Rice’s NFL touchdown record is on par with Ovechkin’s feat.

While many fans are happy to celebrate both records individually, Subban’s comments have reignited debate around cross-sport greatness. His take has polarized sports fans, but one thing is clear—Subban is all-in on defending the toughness and prestige of hockey’s best.

In more somber NHL news, former Penguins and Devils GM Ray Shero passed away at 62. The architect of Pittsburgh’s 2009 Stanley Cup win and son of legendary coach Fred Shero, Ray spent decades shaping modern hockey. Raised around the Flyers’ 1970s dynasty, he brought innovation and deep knowledge to every team he led. The hockey world mourns the loss of a respected leader and a true student of the game.

Alcaraz Eyes Redemption, Djokovic Falters, Sinner Returns

Carlos Alcaraz has faced mounting criticism for not capitalizing on Jannik Sinner’s three-month doping suspension. With a chance to close the rankings gap, both Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev fell short. Since winning Rotterdam, the Spaniard has made deep runs but failed to lift another title. Heading into the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals, Alcaraz admitted that the pressure to dethrone Sinner “killed” his game, and he now plans to play freely—focusing on performance, not rankings.

While some in the tennis world remain skeptical about Jannik Sinner's three-month doping suspension, Casper Ruud made it clear where he stands. Speaking at the Monte Carlo Masters, Ruud expressed full support for the Italian, saying, "I always considered him innocent." The Norwegian emphasized the vulnerability of tennis players to accidental contamination, adding that he’s never seen Sinner as someone who would intentionally cheat. "It’s extremely unfortunate how the substance got into his system," he added, calling the whole situation tough for a player with Sinner’s integrity.

Novak Djokovic’s Monte Carlo campaign ended in disappointment after a straight-set loss to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo. The World No.1 made 29 unforced errors and showed visible frustration throughout the match. Former French pro Arnaud Clement noted Djokovic seemed emotionally disengaged and questioned his mindset. The defeat delays Djokovic’s quest for his 100th ATP title—a milestone he nearly reached last month in Miami before falling to Jakub Mensik in the final.

As the clay court season intensifies, Monte Carlo has already delivered surprises. With Djokovic out, Alcaraz hungry for redemption, and Sinner set for a highly anticipated return in Rome, the ATP tour is gearing up for a dramatic spring. Fans will be watching closely to see who can build momentum ahead of Roland Garros.
