🏁 Winners & Losers: 2025 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix
🏆 Winners
Lando Norris (McLaren) Lando Norris was the undisputed star of the Hungarian Grand Prix, clinching his fifth win of the season with a masterclass one-stop strategy. In a thrilling finish, he brilliantly held off his teammate Oscar Piastri, delivering McLaren their monumental 200th Grand Prix victory. Norris’s audacious strategy and calm execution under pressure underscored his growing championship credentials.
Oscar Piastri (McLaren) While finishing second, Oscar Piastri pushed Norris to the absolute limit with an aggressive two-stop strategy, closing to within a mere 0.6 seconds at the checkered flag. This strong performance allowed him to maintain a nine-point lead in the Drivers' Championship, ensuring he remains firmly in the hunt for the title. McLaren's dynamic duo continues to set the pace.
George Russell (Mercedes) George Russell quietly but effectively delivered Mercedes a commendable third-place finish. He shrewdly capitalized on Ferrari’s struggles, securing his first podium result since the Canadian Grand Prix. This was a much-needed morale boost for Russell and Mercedes, hinting at potential improvements in their performance.
Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) Battling through clear physical discomfort, Fernando Alonso put in a vintage performance to finish fifth. His long, effective stint on medium tires and tenacious defense in the closing laps secured Aston Martin’s best result of the season. Alonso once again proved why he remains one of the grid's most determined and skilled veterans.

❌ Losers
Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) What started with pole position ended in frustration for Charles Leclerc, who tumbled to fourth. Plagued by balance issues and questionable strategy calls, he voiced his displeasure over the radio. Leclerc later hinted at deeper power limitations and setup concerns within the Ferrari camp, signaling ongoing challenges for the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) Lewis Hamilton endured arguably his worst weekend since joining Ferrari, qualifying and finishing a disappointing 12th. To make matters worse, he was even lapped during the race, a rare sight for the seven-time champion. Hamilton's post-race comments openly questioned his fit with the team, suggesting growing frustration.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) Max Verstappen's struggles continued at Hungary. His two-stop strategy simply failed to deliver, leaving him languishing in ninth place. He now trails Oscar Piastri by a significant 97 points in the championship. Red Bull’s inability to match McLaren’s pace is becoming a major concern, and they need to find answers quickly.
Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) Carlos Sainz had a messy and inconsistent race, finishing a distant 14th after incurring penalties and showing poor pace. His ongoing struggles with consistency continue to hamper Ferrari’s efforts in the Constructors' Championship, adding pressure as the season progresses.
🏀 Arenas' Legal Battle, Morris's Payback & Lakers' Big Deals
After Marcus Morris’ arrest, next was time for Gilbert Arenas. The 3-time All-Star was charged with allegedly running an illegal poker ring, and could face up to 15 years in prison if he is found guilty in the trial set to start in September.
After posting bond, he was released, and he came out celebrating. Morris was also let go after settling his debt with the 2 Las Vegas casinos that had filed a fraud charge against the ESPN analyst.
Money was flying around in the NBA after the New York Knicks handed star guard Mikal Bridges a 4-year, $150 million contract. This would tie him down to the franchise until the 2029-30 season.
The most important task the Lakers had on their hands was to get Luka Doncic to sign an extension. He finally did, earning a 3-year, $165 million deal that sets him up nicely for a much better payday down the line.

He wants the Lakers to give him a championship-contending roster, and so does LeBron James. But the team is balancing their needs, and has given the latter the freedom to decide when he wants to retire from the sport.
Cross-town rival Clippers might have a problem on their hands if star playmaker James Harden looks as unconditioned as he did during his recent trip to China. They need him to anchor their team in their quest to win a title.
💸 Court Chaos, Fever's Fire & WNBA's Money Talk
A 2nd NSFW toy was thrown onto the court when Angel Reese’s Sky were playing the Valkyries. After the game, league veterans Sophie Cunningham and Isabelle Harrison asked fans to stop throwing items that can hurt players.
Cunningham and the Fever won their 5th straight game without Caitlin Clark. Those results have pushed the team up to 5th in the standings. Even though there are some rumblings about the importance of Clark’s game, the Fever wants her back only when she is healthy.
Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie clarified how important the Caitlin Clark effect is to the WNBA. For someone who is known to help Reese with her game, this claim surprisingly did not rattle the cage of those fans who despise Clark.
Kelsey Plum wants Netflix to sponsor next season’s All-Star game and throw in a $1 million prize pool to make the game competitive. She reiterated that the women of the W deserve a larger share of the revenue, whereas the current CBA gives them a pittance for All-Star participation.
Their concerns received additional support when the Connecticut Sun agreed to a deal to sell the franchise to the owners of the Boston Celtics for $325 million. The staggering 3.25 increase in valuation has many believing teams are earning, whereas players don’t.
🏈 Parsons' Trade Bomb, Caleb's Camp Woes & Rice's Suspension Cloud
The weekend kicked off with the news that Dallas Cowboys fans were dreading all offseason long. Star pass rusher Micah Parsons handed in a trade request after growing frustrated with Jerry Jones’ stance.
That trade request has still not made a dent in the billionaire's thought process. He still believes his best player will stay for the right amount of money. All of this contributed to even louder fan chants at practice, asking Jones to pay the star pass rusher.
Colts QB Anthony Richardson is hoping that his switch to a diet inspired by Tom Brady’s ways can help him improve on his fledgling and questionable start to life as an NFL quarterback.
Brady believes Caleb Williams will thrive under new head coach Ben Johnson’s leadership. He hopes the new HC can help mitigate the young QB's weaknesses and help promote his strengths as the Bears look to perform better than last season.
The sophomore QB, however, has not had a great training camp so far. After throwing interceptions last week, this time he could not complete a throwing drill. That frustration got to him, and he rage-quit, leaving his fellow QBs standing bewildered.
Rashee Rice does not know how long the NFL will suspend him for his part in the car crash last year. He claims his legal team is working on the situation. He just wants to concentrate on his activities on the football field.
