🏀 Clutch Curry, NBC's Return, and a Massive Gambling Scandal
The 2025-26 NBA season got off to a great start with NBC returning to broadcast the league. Their intro video featuring Michael Jordan went viral, as did their brilliant presentation of the opening night doubleheader.
Both games were classics, with the defending champion Thunder edging out former superstar Kevin Durant’s Houston Rockets in double overtime. In the second game, Stephen Curry nullified Luka Doncic’s stellar night, hitting the game-changing 3-pointer to send the Lakers packing.
Curry was again at his clutch best, when he scored 35 points in the 2nd half and overtime against the Denver Nuggets on the 3rd night. His performances undermined a 50-point effort from Aaron Gordon.

Standout performances brought the excitement back to the NBA as Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Edwards, and team performances from the Knicks, Jazz, and the Hornets brought about interesting games.
The 2nd and 3rd nights were covered by the Inside the NBA crew, who brought back their trademark humor into the league. Shaquille O’Neal, however, was ‘ashamed’ of what Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier did.
The two were among 30+ people arrested by the FBI for aiding and participating in illegal gambling. Charles Barkley believes the NBA is in a bit of a soup after previously clearing Rozier of any illegal activities.
Stephen A. Smith felt this was President Donald Trump’s way of getting back at those who criticized him. FBI Director Kash Patel laughed off these suggestions, but the ESPN analyst reiterated that more will come if the President does not get his way.
🏈 Belichick's Drama, QB Controversies, and ‘Unc' Bowl Aftermath
Bill Belichick and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, again became headline material after Pablo Torre released clips showing the latter belittling the staff of ‘Coach’. She was heard suggesting that she could do a better job than their graphics department.
Controversy continued with the Dolphins, with HC Mike McDaniel suggesting that Tua Tagovailoa stopped throwing interceptions. The signal caller then made matters worse when he suggested his short height was responsible for the lack of targets for Jaylen Waddle.
QB controversies stayed on the East Coast with Jets owner Woody Johnson pointing fingers at Justin Fields, while defending HC Aaron Glenn’s role in their disastrous start to this season. Then there was Geno Smith, who faced calls from Raiders fans asking the franchise to switch QBs.
Sticking to QB drama, Broncos head coach Sean Payton caused a furor after he threw subtle shade at Russell Wilson after their dramatic late-game win over the Giants. The veteran broke character and labeled his former head coach as ‘classless.’
Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco battled in the unofficial ‘Unc’ Bowl last week. The latter came out on top despite both having stellar games. Up next, Rodgers will face his former team, the Packers. He denied having any ill feelings towards them and rejected the thought of a revenge game.
Carson Wentz, who wore an arm brace during their game against the Chargers, took a hard fall on that arm and then lost his cool, smashing his helmet in frustration. Kirk Herbstreit criticized the QB's actions, believing it showed a lack of character.
🏁 Disaster for Hendrick, a Villain's Rise, and the Briscoe-Larson Debate
Talladega always delivers chaos and drama. However, the last race was reportedly a "disaster" for Hendrick Motorsports. Racing legend Kyle Petty used that harsh term to describe the team's struggles. Hendrick drivers are usually strong on superspeedways. This recent poor performance put some of their playoff drivers under major pressure. It means they face a tough challenge in the upcoming elimination races.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a message for the fans. He is urging them to embrace Austin Hill’s new "villain" persona. Hill has been involved in several aggressive, late-race moves. These moves have earned him criticism but also major success. Earnhardt Jr. believes this kind of drama is good for the sport. He wants fans to appreciate the intensity and the excitement it creates.

Chase Briscoe is having a standout year in the Cup Series. Kevin Harvick commented on Briscoe's development as a racer. Harvick called Briscoe's evolution "intriguing." Briscoe has recently locked himself into the Championship 4 with a big win. He has shown major improvement in all aspects of his driving. This shows his hard work is clearly paying off.
The debate over NASCAR's championship format continues. Champion driver Kyle Larson weighed in with his strong opinion. He exposed the major issue with a full 36-race season format. Larson argues that a full season system does not properly value winning. He feels the Playoffs solve this problem by making wins more critical. The current format rewards clutch performances when it matters most.
Larson has a point about consistency versus winning. Winning multiple races in the regular season can be overshadowed by a single bad week. The Playoffs ensure that a driver must perform at an elite level throughout the entire season and in high-pressure elimination races. For Larson, this challenge is what makes a championship truly valuable. It's about surviving and advancing.
