⚾ MLB Trade Deadline: Winners & Losers 💸

The MLB trade deadline always brings fireworks, and 2025 was no exception! We saw some blockbuster moves that will undoubtedly reshape the playoff picture. Here's a look at who came out on top, and who might be scratching their heads after the dust settled.

🏆 Winners

Seattle Mariners The Seattle Mariners emerged as clear winners, significantly bolstering their already potent lineup. They acquired two major firepower hitters in Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez. Suarez, who is in red-hot form with 36 home runs this season (trailing only Cal Raleigh, Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Kyle Schwarber), makes a impactful return to the team. He also became the first player ever to be traded mid-season while having 35 or more home runs, highlighting the significance of this acquisition for a team already boasting the home run leader in Cal Raleigh.

San Diego Padres The San Diego Padres made a bold play, seemingly going all-in for a championship push despite trading away several promising prospects, including the highly-rated Leo De Vries (ranked 3rd on the MLB Pipeline). They significantly strengthened their pitching staff by acquiring top reliever Mason Miller and JP Sears, and also brought in Nestor Cortes to fortify their rotation. On the offensive side, they landed Ramon Laureano and Ryan O'Hearn, sacrificing six prospects in total. They even added catcher Freddy Fermin and infielder Will Wagner, demonstrating a clear commitment to immediate contention.

🚩 Losers

Minnesota Twins While some might argue the Twins are rebuilding, trading away 10 players, including a high-profile star like Carlos Correa while still owing him a significant portion of his contract, makes them the undeniable "losers" in terms of immediate competitive impact and fan morale. This massive sell-off signals a clear concession for the current season and potentially the next, leaving fans wondering about the direction and immediate future of the franchise.

💰️ LeBron's Secret Project, Morey's Asterisk & Morris's Mess

When fans thought LeBron James was vacationing in France, it turned out to be a business meeting alongside Nikola Jokic’s agent and his close friend Maverick Carter. The trio was discussing the international league Carter is set to launch next year.

Sixers GM, Daryl Morey, stoked some fire by claiming James and the Lakers’ 2020 bubble championship should have an asterisk on it. But he did claim that if his Rockets had won, he would have celebrated.

James’ name came up again when Kwame Brown celebrated the dismissal of Shannon Sharpe from ESPN, along with the arrest of Gilbert Arenas. The latter was arraigned and let go on a $50K bond, but will face trial over 3 charges of running an illegal poker ring.

Marcus Morris is also on the hook as he is expected to be extradited to Las Vegas after 2 casinos filed a fraud charge against him. He is yet to repay the $265,000 he owes them after issuing 2 bad checks.

Luka Doncic’s physique has become the talk of the town after he graced the front cover of Men’s Health Magazine. During a Jordan Brand promotional tour of the New York Yankees, he took a sly dig at Mavs GM Nico Harrison, suggesting he might have already read the magazine.

Tyrese Haliburton celebrated a major moment in his life as he went down on one knee to propose to long-time girlfriend, Jade Jones. Caitlin Clark and many others celebrated this engagement.

🏀 Clark's Stalker Jailed, Bonner Booed & Reese's Clout Call

Caitlin Clark received some comforting news when her stalker was sentenced to spend 2.5 in prison. However, fans were not happy and believed the 55-year-old man had enough problems to be handed a longer sentence.

Her Fever faced former teammate DeWanna Bonner on her return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. However, the fans were not happy and booed the 6-time All-Star. This booing brought out a response from fiancée Alyssa Thomas, claiming she was on a better team.

That backfired as the Fever won with an impressive defensive performance. After the game, Kahleah Copper labelled the booing as disrespectful and distasteful. However, this claim received a lot of backlash on social media.

Social media was also in flames when a neon green NSFW object was tossed onto the court while the Valkyries were playing against the Atlanta Dream. The game was stopped, and the hunt is still on for the perpetrator.

Angel Reese’s fans are labelling WNBA legend Candace Parker as a perpetrator of hate after she doubled down on her opinion of the Chicago Sky forward. Reese, however, indirectly labelled it as a means to garner clout.

Sophie Cunningham made it clear that no matter what others think, there is no doubt that Caitlin Clark is the ‘Face of the WNBA.’ One logic that can help that notion is that opponents target the Fever guard more than any other player.

🏈 NFL Office Shooting, Sharpe's ESPN Exit & Parsons' Contract Saga

The NFL world was shaken up when a casino security guard drove from Las Vegas to Manhattan and rained bullets at a building which houses the league’s offices. One NFL staff member was injured.

After an investigation, New York Mayor Eric Adams revealed that the former high school football star was targeting the NFL offices, but ended up taking the wrong elevator. He wanted to take revenge for suffering from CTE after playing football.

He ended up killing 4 people, injuring a few more, before killing himself with his M4 rifle. Commissioner Roger Goodell asked employees to work from home as the offices were to remain shut until law enforcement gave them the all-clear.

Shannon Sharpe was upset that the news of his dismissal from ESPN came the day before his brother was to be inducted into the NFL’s Hall of Fame. This was 2 weeks after he settled a misconduct lawsuit.

Trey Hendrickson and Terry McLaurin returned to their respective teams in order to stop being imposed $50,000 in fines every day they do not report to work. That stance was short-lived for the latter after McLaurin handed in a trade request.

Jerry Jones should hope Micah Parsons does not follow McLaurin’s example after reports came out that the contract negotiations had ‘gone backwards’. The last thing Jones would want is for his star pass rusher to leave.

President Donald Trump relaunched the Presidential Fitness Test. To help oversee the program will be elite athletes, one of whom was Harrison Butker, who Trump labelled as a ‘handsome guy, and NFL legend Lawrence Taylor, who seemed to have no clue what they were about to do.
