🏀 ICE SHOOTING HALTS NBA
👑 WNBA PROTEST
🏈 COUNTDOWN TO SUPERBOWL
🏀 Minneapolis Tragedy, Lakers’ Power Play Drama, and Giannis’ Emotional Injury
The shooting of Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents in Minneapolis rocked the NBA. Tyrese Haliburton was one of the few players to openly condemn the act alongside Isaiah Thomas, JR Smith, and others, with Charles Barkley being the loudest on television.
Steve Kerr called for citizens to remind themselves about their values, whereas the Timberwolves held a moment of silence. After the game, which was already postponed by a day due to the incident, the Warriors' HC revealed how the situation had impacted players.
His team managed to win the game against a seemingly disinterested Wolves, which broke their 2-game losing streak. With Jimmy Butler done for the season with an ACL tear, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green’s future has become a topic of discussion.
The situation with the Knicks has also gripped the attention of fans, with Jalen Brunson yelling at his teammates becoming the tipping point after their consistent struggles this month. The players, however, believe they will rectify whatever is wrong within the team.
The Lakers were in turmoil after an ESPN article detailed Jeanie Buss’ discontent with LeBron James and his agent, Rich Paul’s alleged power play. Even though she did deny these accusations, the King simply stated that he did not care and reiterated that his time with the team was successful.
After Bucks fans booed Giannis Antetokounmpo, he retaliated and eventually shed tears on the bench after a blowout loss. Then, against the Nuggets, he initially left the bench to get his leg taped, then later hobbled out late in the 4th quarter. He will miss 4-6 weeks.
📆 2026 Schedule Drop, Caitlin’s 24th Birthday, and the "Abolish ICE" Movement
Even though there is uncertainty with the next CBA still unsigned, the WNBA released its 2026 schedule to allow teams to get a head start on logistics. For Caitlin Clark’s fans, surprisingly, the league paired her against Paige Bueckers.
The Wings star admitted while speaking with Kylie Kelce that the two guards understand what the media and the league want while pitting them against each other. This means Clark’s rivalry with Angel Reese has been seemingly put on the back burner.
The Fever guard celebrated turning 24 with an intense workout at the Fever facilities as tennis legend Billie Jean King, her teammates, both current and former, and several of her friends, along with her boyfriend, showered blessings and wishes.
The latter took to his Instagram to reshare a post from former President Barack Obama about the death of Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents in Minneapolis. Breanna Stewart stood with an ‘ABOLISH ICE’ sign at the Unrivaled games, which found support from her peers.
Sky superstar Angel Reese was also one of those to react to this message, as well as one from the WNBPA. She was the first to react to this news, writing a message on X that she was ‘praying for her country.’
🏈 Darnold’s Super Sunday, Stefanski’s Second Chance, and the ICE Super Bowl
President Donald Trump received a rapturous response from fans at the CFP National Championship Game, in which Fernando Mendoza and his Indiana Hoosiers captured the title, defeating the Miami Hurricanes.
The President then revealed that he would not make his way to watch Super Bowl LX. Hearing this, Bad Bunny decided to ditch the costume he planned to wear. However, there are rumors that Trump would still deploy ICE agents at the game.
Stefon Diggs and his Patriots were the first to punch their tickets to the Super Bowl after they managed to make the most of a Jarrett Stidham turnover. The WR was in tears and slammed his critics after reaching the Super Bowl before Josh Allen did.
Sam Darnold also became the first QB from his draft class to reach a Super Bowl, leaving Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Baker Mayfield in the dust. The Seahawks overcame a shootout against Sean McVay’s Rams.
In the meantime, John Harbaugh, as expected, was the first coaching domino to fall after he signed with the New York Giants. Quarterback Jaxson Dart reiterated that wins are going to automatically come.
Jesse Minter was hired to be Harbaugh’s replacement at the Ravens, while Kevin Stefanski got a 2nd chance as an HC with the Falcons. The latter’s appointment eventually led to some words from former QB Mayfield, who will face him twice next year.
Mike McCarthy is set to start his third stint as a head coach, that too with his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers. This hire could convince former quarterback Aaron Rodgers to remain in Pennsylvania for another season.
