⚾️ Mookie's Magic, Dodgers' Delight & Manfred's Master Plan

Talk about a change in momentum. Just a week after getting swept by their crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers completely turned the script on the San Diego Padres. In a pivotal division series, the Dodgers not only won the first two games but completed a crucial sweep on Sunday, taking back control of the NL West and pushing their rivals two games back in the standings.

The hero of the Sunday finale was none other than Mookie Betts. The superstar, who had been in a bit of a slump and was hitless in the series, stepped up in the eighth inning and slammed a go-ahead solo home run.

The clutch blast broke a 4-4 tie and sealed the sweep, proving that even a struggling superstar can change the course of an entire division race with one swing of the bat.

While the on-field drama heated up, commissioner Rob Manfred was busy talking about a radical overhaul of the league itself. Manfred floated a bold new idea for a major geographic realignment. The plan would see the league move away from the traditional American and National Leagues, and instead adopt a more regional structure, much like the NBA and NHL.

This potential shake-up is tied to Manfred's other big goal: expanding the league. The commissioner has made it clear he wants to add two more teams before he steps down in 2029. This would bring the total number of clubs to 32, providing the perfect opportunity to implement a new, more geographically logical structure that could lead to new rivalries and less player travel.

🃏 Jokic’s Funny Warning, A-Smith's Headaches & Sengun's Salty Shot

A week does not pass without another Michael Porter Jr. news. The Nets star revealed that Nuggets teammate Nikola Jokic’s goodbye message to him was to remind him to use precaution when dealing with the women of New York.

He also claimed that he was the difference maker in the Nuggets’ run of victories against the Los Angeles Lakers. At the same time, he praised LeBron James for his brilliance with the basketball.

The King and his team are responsible for making their February clash against the New York Knicks the most expensive game of the upcoming season. The hype surrounding the purple and gold is increasing as Luka Doncic continues to shine at EuroBasket.

James’ youngest son, Bryce James, became a point of headache for Stephen A. Smith when his older daughter, Samantha, revealed that she once had the biggest crush on the Arizona star. After revealing that, she again roasted her father’s massive forehead.

Derrick Rose will get his No. 1 jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls next season. Another superlative point guard from the past decade, John Wall, officially retired from basketball after not finding a contract.

His Houston Rockets were in the news after Alperen Sengun claimed that the Golden State Warriors were crying about foul calls, whereas they were the ones fouling the most. This drew a strong reply from Draymond Green, whose words suggested that the Turkish center was sore from the loss.

🏀 Sue's Statue, The Fever's Fear & Bueckers' Brilliance

Sue Bird became the first WNBA player to get a statue after the Seattle Storm revealed a near-perfect recreation. This drew comparisons to the disastrous Dwyane Wade statue, and fans asked the Heat to get their fixed.

Sophie Cunningham became the third Indiana Fever player to end her season due to injury after it was revealed that she tore the MCL in her right knee. She rejected claims that the Connecticut Sun’s Bria Hartley intentionally hurt her.

On top of that, there were reports that Caitlin Clark’s recovery took a setback after suffering an ankle sprain. Now, fans are asking for clarity amid growing concerns that the superstar’s season is also over.

In her place, it was this season’s No. 1 overall pick, Paige Bueckers, who threw out all Rookie of the Year concerns after posting a stellar 44-point outing in a close loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.

That makes her the rookie with the most points in WNBA history, as well as the only player in league history to post 40+ points while shooting at an efficiency of 80+%. Bueckers earned praise from NBA stars Chet Holmgren, Jalen Green, and Jabari Smith Jr., who were present at the game.

A’ja Wilson continues to make her case for a 4th league MVP award after another record-setting overall display. She has led her Aces now to 9 straight victories. They now stand 3rd on the leaderboard after staying most of the time in the bottom half.

💵 Parsons' Pay Saga, Harbaugh's New Foe & A Rookie's Tears

The drama surrounding the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons took another turn when Jerry Jones revealed that the pass rusher’s agent apparently rejected a contract offer that would have made him the highest-paid non-QB in the league.

Since then, Parsons has removed all Cowboys-related content from his social media pages, and Ryan Clark revealed that the agent in question never uttered the words Jones claims he has.

The Indianapolis Colts announced Daniel Jones as their QB1, which meant Anthony Richardson will back him up. The latter’s agent believes the franchise had already made this decision when they signed Jones and was almost about to hand in a trade request for his client.

Contracts continued to dominate the conversations after Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf trolled teammate Cameron Heyward over his latest demands. The Steelers, so far, have not budged on his request.

On the other hand, Chicago Bears backup QB Tyson Bagent bawled his eyes out after signing a 2-year, $10 million extension. The money was significant for his family, who did not have much over the years.

The Michigan Wolverines were fined $20 million along with 4 years of probation and a litany of other penalties. Since it all happened under Jim Harbaugh, Urban Meyer wants the NFL to suspend the Chargers' head coach.

His quarterback, Justin Herbert, was in the spotlight a day earlier when he was snapped alongside singer Madison Beer. Those photos have prompted fans to believe the two are dating.
