🏁 Winners, Losers, and the New F1 Championship Leader

The 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix delivered an intense mix of pure dominance, strategic drama, and championship-altering disappointment. While one driver enjoyed a career-defining weekend, several others left the high-altitude circuit wondering what exactly went wrong.

✅ Winners

Lando Norris (McLaren): The New Championship Leader Norris delivered a sensational, lights-to-flag weekend that cemented McLaren's status as a genuine title threat. He backed up his brilliant Pole Position with a half-minute, unchallenged victory, showcasing masterful tire management and pace. By taking the full 25 points, Norris seized the lead in the Drivers' Championship, proving his consistency and speed are now unmatched at the season's crucial juncture.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing): Damage Control Podiums The weekend started with high anxiety after a disappointing qualifying session for the reigning champion. Yet, in typical Verstappen fashion, he displayed incredible racecraft to salvage a strong P3 finish. To achieve a podium with what the team later confirmed was significant floor damage from contact was a critical act of damage control, clawing back valuable points and keeping him firmly in contention for the title.

Charles Leclerc (Scuderia Ferrari): Consolation for the Prancing Horse In a race where the other Ferrari failed to finish, Leclerc held firm. His solid drive to P2 secured a crucial podium, ensuring Scuderia Ferrari banked significant constructor points. While the gap to Norris was substantial, Leclerc’s clean, error-free performance offered a valuable consolation prize and helped keep Ferrari battling for second place in the constructors' standings.

Oliver Bearman (Haas F1 Team): A Breakout Star is Born The young Haas driver delivered a sensational, breakout performance that grabbed headlines. Qualifying in the top-10 was impressive enough, but his controlled, mature racecraft allowed him to climb the order and claim a career-best P4 finish. This extraordinary result provided the Haas F1 Team with their biggest points haul of the season and signaled Bearman's arrival as a major talent.

❌ Losers

Oscar Piastri (McLaren): Losing Ground While salvaging a P5 finish was commendable, Piastri's overall weekend was a dip in form compared to his teammate's dominance. The Australian struggled with pace throughout the practice sessions and qualifying, ultimately losing the championship lead to Norris. At this critical stage of the season, failing to convert promising starting positions into strong podium finishes is not the trajectory he or McLaren wanted.

George Russell (Mercedes): A Wasted Opportunity Russell started P4 and had the pace to challenge for the podium, but his entire race was mired in traffic and frustration. A combination of poor strategy and getting bogged down behind slower cars meant he couldn't unleash the Mercedes' potential. Finishing P7 (or P6, depending on final penalties) after a weekend with high podium hopes is a bitterly disappointing outcome that further damages Mercedes’ constructor fight.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes): The Costly Cut Hamilton showed flashes of the brilliant grip he had early in the race, but a major mid-race penalty proved costly. An infraction for cutting the track and gaining an advantage literally erased his chance at a first podium of the 2025 season. It was a race defined by a single, critical misjudgment—a heartbreaking end to what had potential to be a strong points day.

Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari): Zero Points from Chaos It was a complete disaster for Carlos Sainz. An early-race collision led to a series of penalties and ultimately a DNF (Did Not Finish). For Ferrari, it represented another crushing missed opportunity to capitalize on a front-row start. To leave Mexico City with zero points from one car puts them back to square one in their fight to catch their rivals

🏀 Silver "Disturbed" as Wembanyama & Reaves Dominate Headline-Grabbing Week

After being arrested by the FBI, Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier, it came to light that the Portland Trail Blazers head coach left the facilities on bail. The Miami Heat guard, however, had to keep his $6 million mansion on bond before being allowed to leave.

Players' Union vice-president Jaylen Brown subtly criticized the NBA for not protecting its players after they decided to join hands with betting companies. Commissioner Adam Silver, on the other hand, said that he was ‘deeply disturbed’ by the arrests.

Victor Wembanyama continued to impose his dominance after leading his Spurs to their 2nd win in a row. Then, against the Brooklyn Nets, he displayed his two-way abilities, blocking shots twice, and then shooting a logo three on the other end.

Stephen Curry also had a terrific night against the Denver Nuggets. Despite not performing well in the 1st half, the star point guard went off in the 2nd half and overtime. He scored 35 points in that period, nullifying Nuggets star Aaron Gordon’s stellar 50-point shooting night.

Luka Doncic could not get his 50 after missing free throws against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He missed their 3rd game of the season. But Austin Reaves was there to lead the team, scoring a career-high 51 points and almost completing a triple-double.

LeBron James rejoiced from home as his understudy had the best night of his life. At the same time, former champion Jeff Teague revealed that the King’s accomplices apparently warned him for joking about the all-time leading scorer’s alleged steroid rumors.

🏈 A-Rod's TD vs. Green Bay, Deion's Agony, and Dallas Defensive Disaster

Deion Sanders seems to be missing his son, Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter, after Utah humiliated the Colorado Buffaloes with a score of 43-0. The NFL Hall of Famer admitted it was the ‘worst beating he had ever had.’

On the topic of Sanders, it seems Shedeur Sanders will have to wait. Dillon Gabriel’s performances in their embarrassing loss to the Patriots left Myles Garrett frustrated. His 5 sacks went to waste, and HC Kevin Stefanski confirmed he is not looking to change QBs.

Hopefully, the New York Jets won’t change quarterbacks after Justin Fields did enough to help his team win its 1st game of the season. The QB was emotional after the game, revealing how family and friends helped him get through a trying week.

It was again a trying week for the Dallas Cowboys. This time, not only did their defense struggle again, but Dak Prescott and his offense were also left embarrassed by the Denver Broncos. Despite those struggles, Jerry Jones is not inclined to trade for reinforcements.

Aaron Rodgers had a wide smile on his face when he lined up to score his first touchdown against his former team, the Green Bay Packers. After the game, he met his replacement, Jordan Love. They did not exchange jerseys as Love did not want the Steelers’ disastrous alternate design.
