🏀 Knee Scares, Birthday Serenades, and Jaylen’s Salsa-Powered 50

The week was notorious for injuries, with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic giving fans a scare when he clutched his knee after a collision with a teammate. Scans revealed that he avoided serious injury and will need a month to rehabilitate his hyperextended knee.

Situations went from bad to worse for the Nuggets, who then lost backup center Jonas Valanciunas to a calf strain in the very next game. The Lithuanian, too, would miss a month, leaving the team without a proper big man.

Victor Wembanyama also gave San Antonio Spurs fans a scare when he limped off. He too did not suffer any major injury, but would have to take it easy before the doctors can examine and clear his knee.

Austin Reaves will also miss a month at least after suffering an abdominal injury. That coincided with two blowout losses, after which fans turned their ire on superstars Luka Doncic and LeBron James for their lack of defense.

Lakers fans celebrated the latter’s birthday by singing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ in unison during the home loss to the Pistons. Since that game, head coach JJ Redick has tweaked the roster and has since won two straight.

Kawhi Leonard put together a string of mightily impressive performances to help his Clippers to a 6-0 run. The Klaw even broke character to troll teammate James Harden’s beard as a New Year resolution.

That run, however, stopped when Jaylen Brown went off for 50 points to lead his Celtics to a win. The latter jokingly credited his salsa dance lessons with Victoria Monet for sparking his run, which some claim is MVP-worthy.

🏈 Diggs Fallout, A Rookie’s Heartbreak, and Garrett’s New Record

The week started with the Dallas Cowboys releasing Trevon Diggs after an alleged dispute over his insistence on not returning to Dallas after a road game. Soon, he was picked up by the Packers, with Micah Parsons celebrating the news.

The latter hit back at some Dallas-based media houses for trying to speak ill of his close friend. He also took shots at Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office for ‘slandering his name’ after his trade was completed.

Diggs’ brother and wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, also faced controversy with fresh assault and strangulation charges brought forward after he allegedly had an altercation with his private chef over unpaid dues.

The WR’s QB, Drake Maye, is firmly in the MVP race after Rams star Matthew Stafford’s three interceptions in their Week 17 loss to the Falcons. That win and another in Week 18 were not enough to save Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot’s jobs.

The jobs of other head coaches are up in the air with Kevin Stefanski leading them, even though his Browns managed to win their second game in a row against the Bengals. The game finally saw Myles Garrett set the NFL record for sacks in a single season.

Lamar Jackson did not give a clear view on John Harbaugh’s seat in the building after the Ravens exited the playoffs after a loss to the Steelers. The QB had a good game, but his rookie kicker could not drill the football through the uprights, leaving his wife to garner some nasty reactions from fans.

❤️ Swift’s Like, Clark’s Nike Reveal, and Looming WNBA Work Stoppage

On the eve of the New Year, Caitlin Clark posted a series of photos on her Instagram page commemorating a trying year, which drew a lot of attention, with musical superstar Taylor Swift notably liking the post as well.

The Indiana Fever superstar then appeared on New Heights, where she revealed to Swift’s boyfriend and NFL star Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce that her signature shoe will feature the latest technology from Nike.

Clark talked about the NFL at length, suggesting she does not like the Buffalo Bills, who happen to be the fiercest rival currently of her favorite Kansas City Chiefs. She also revealed that she likes Drake Maye for MVP.

Angel Reese had a moment to cheer when Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry wore her Reebok AR-15 signature sneakers to a game. He did not play in it, but wearing it was enough for the Chicago Sky star, whose sneakers are yet to take off in the NBA.

Napheesa Collier was about to start her 2nd season in Unrivaled, but had to stop when doctors advised her to get surgery on both her ankles. The league co-founder will be out for the next six months recovering.

She will, however, be a part of the CBA negotiations with the WNBA, doing her part to push back on the players by revealing that the league would lose $700 million next season if they accepted the union’s demands.
